Physics; legend dutch boy who bravely held back the whole Atlantic Ocean with his finger is this possible?

There is a legend of a Dutch boy who bravely held back the whole Atlantic Ocean by plugging a hole in a dike with his finger. Is this possible?

From a physics point of view, there are no objections; a water pressure of a couple of meters below sea level, a finger sized hole, no big deal.

However, dikes are made of earth. For water to come out on the dry side, the dike basically has to be saturated with water all the way through. The finger sized hole is the first place the dike failed, it's doubtful the water would take very long to find another route around the small finger. (The dike is dozens of meters wide at it's base, a finger mere centimeters long)

From a geography point of view it's totally impossible since the Netherlands are located at the North Sea, not the Atlantic Ocean. ;o)
