does any body have directions on how to make a stuffed horse?
im 13 but i can handle the hard sewing or crosstitch or embroidery or wat ever soo does any one have a site that has a pattern on making a stuffed horse ( please make sure the site has a large pattern and directions!) ^___^
i dont mean like kill a real live horse and stuff it to place it on the mantel...i MEAN how can i make a TOY stuffed animal horse...like a teddy bear
Hi Lola, I looked around on the net and could not find much for horses.. However, this is what I would do. Find a color book with a 'cartoon type horse' as big as you can. . possibly a rocking horse or something with stiff legs.. not trotting or whatever. Trace the horse with his head, neck, body - but no mane, tail or ears and no legs. Then trace 1 front leg and one back leg - making it exactly like the horse until you get to the 'body connection' part. Then just draw it up to make it 'rounded at the top' and then lay aside.
If you want it bigger than your picture you will need to scan it in to a computer or take to a copy machine that will enlarge it.
Once it is the size you want - make 2 copies (1 for each side of the body) of the body-neck and head. then you will need 4 copies of each leg - an inside and an outside for each leg.. ok?
Lay all the pieces on your cloth and cut around them leaving at least a 1/2" space or seaming allowance (area to sew on and not make the whole horse smaller). You will make the ears out of scraps so lay your pieces so you end up with some scraps after cutting out.
Instead of sewing the 2 sides of the horse right together to give him more of a 'real' look - sew a 1-2" strip of matching fabric (just a long straight piece of fabric about 2" wide) to one side of the horse's head,neck, body part and then sew the other side of that strip on the other side. This creates a wide flat piece running down his face, neck belly butt and back and up the neck. He will look more real. This will make the horse wider. Leave an 'unsewn part so you can have a spot to put the stuffing in - like on his belly.
On the legs - you may want to cut the fabric a little wider - leave a half inch more around them then just the pattern. If the legs are nice and thick and stuffed tightly the pony will be able to stand. Then sew the legs together leaving the top round portion unsewn... turn wrong side out to sew together and then turn them right side out Stuff them hard and tight with kapok stuffing for stuffed animals or old nylon stockings. Turn top edges under and sew them up.
Attach the horses legs with a sturdy button that has 4 holes in it to the body, placing them in the correct area.. The button will make it harder to pull out or pull off.
Sew on some ears with double thickness fabric so they will stand up better. Sew on some yarn or mane, tail and forelock. Sew on buttons for eyes.
When you sew on the forelock, mane and tail keep in mind that you can just take a big crewel needle with very large eye and sew a big loop yarn for the mane or tail the appropriate length - then take a slip knot in the yarn and sew another big loop even with the first one -very close together- continue on making a nice thick mane and tail. Because you knotted each loop you then shld be able to go bk and snip the loops so they become strands of mane or tail. 
When you sew him up you should double seam or sew twice around each area as when you stuff him it will want to pull the stitches loose.. so stitching needs to be doubled and strong.
This is kind of simplified so I hope you know a little about sewing but it sounded like you did! So I think you can do it!
