How do you digitize embroidery?

I have a Brothers embroidery machine, and im trying to figure out how to digitize images. I have no idea where to start, which program do i need? where do i get it from? Is there a easy to read manual for digitizing? im not experienced, any help will be great!

to answer your first question, in order to make a quality design that's worth your thread, stabilizer, fabric and time you will need to do what is called manual punch digitizing.
If you are an artist you are a step ahead as you can use your own pictures, but if not you will have to find clipart that the aritist allows to be used OR you can subcribe to many different clipart sites to get your images.

Think of digitizing as kind of like tracing a picture only a lot more steps and a lot harder! That's the best I can describe it.
It takes a lot of patience and trial and error and MANY test stitching sessions of a design to make sure there is nothing that needs to be adjusted.

Now for the best programs-well that's a loaded question.
Most of this decision depends on what you want the software for. None of them are "easy" at first, but again with a lot of patience and persisitance anyone can accomplish great designs.
Prices range from free to thousands of dollars, of course the cheaper the program the more frustrated you are probably going to get with using it.

I personally use Embird. This is a great program because you buy the "basic" package, and then add plug ins that you want. For digitizing you will need the Studio plug in, and if you are wanting to do quick and simple lettering from any TTF you will want their Font Engine plug in too.

I suggest if you are wanting to play around with digitizing, Sophie Sews is a free software. Of course not the best, but it's free and will give you a feel for what digitizing is all about.
I have to warn you that the last I heard they were still in the building/testing phase so there are are glitches and bugs but nothing that will cause your computer to go *poof*

I would also suggest a sewing/embroidery forum
I belong to a few, but my favorite is sewforum provided by allbrands
there are thousands of very helpful members there and a lot of free designs.

What's a fair price for the Brother PR600II embrodiery machine?

Included in the price with optional cap frame attachment and no digitizing software. I would like to buy one from an authorized Brother Dealer but my area only has one within driving distance and she has a tremendous markup on all store items. Any ideas?

I think you'll find that the dealers are all using the same manufacturers suggested retail price. they sure don't give these machines away. You can save money online but then you'll end up paying a lot for postage.

A lot of applications are available on the market and claim to be able to find similar and duplicate images. Most of those applications are just variations of standard byte-to-byte duplicate finders that can find only 100% identical files.

We did some performance tests choosing only the applications that can find similar images besides finding duplicates. We tested the applications on AMD X2 5000+, 2GB RAM which is an average machine and scanned 5000 files as some of the applications could not handle large volumes. The results that we achieved were varied.

A nice surprise was the application at the top of the list which is our choice in this review. Besides the performance Visual Similarity Duplicate Image Finder gave accurate results and did not have issues with large volumes of images. It also has a corporate version that is used in online stock photography web sites – we are not surprised by that fact as it managed to scan 50 000 images in several minutes. The PRO version also provides support for 300+ RAW camera image formats.

It is so fantastic to see her develop her custom digital art work business and to see her truly enjoying herself. Life was not always good to us, but something good was sorely needed. I am handling the stress of being laid off a little better than her. Buying generic products appears to come a little easier to me than her. A little late on the rent is a minor glitch to me, but the end of all good to her, so seeing her loving what she does and that she is contributing to our bills is seriously helping her re-establish her own identity.

What she does is this, take a digital picture of a custom car, custom motorcycle, airplane or boat for that matter, she spends a lot of time removing that vehicle (or person for that matter) from the digital picture and super-imposes it on a new background. Of course, it is never that easy. She messes with the color to make everything match. Makes people’s teeth look like a tooth paste commercial, perfects skin, takes that pearl paint job and makes it actually look on pictures like we see for ourselves. Not like the pictures I have taken, lol.

The short of it is this, if you go to a custom car show and have a simple digital picture generated, with your vehicle on a custom background, you will pay upwards of $200 for each complete picture. My wife doesn’t refuse to do just a simple cut-and-paste for $200, she is truly an artist and generates a piece of art, even with more pictures and super imposing many pictures for that one of a kind picture to hang on the wall at home, she even does it for less.

So if you are looking for that special memorial picture of a loved one, the pride and joy parked in the garage to hang on the best part of the wall at home or an entire advertising campaign, you seriously want to go check out her web site. Creativity is something that uses imagination and there are various things in your house that you can use to create an attractive scrap book. Search the market to find collectables. There are so many decorative items you can buy without spending much. Inexpensive gems and fancy ribbons, the markets is filled with them. Now go back and select the layer from last step and use keyboard to press Crtl simultaneously click on in use layer and select the letter C. Now select option gradient tool and choose a color option for example Dark Blue = #276D25 and Blue = #5C9159. Pull by using gradient tool diagonally from bottom right to top left corner and unpick the selection. Take the help of using the above said procedure you have learnt to make a Letter C with varying Blue color.

In the next step go to top menu bar, click on filters and then blur. You find that this way the letter C will turn the color a bit blurred.

In the next step we are shown how to make a shape which will be the design for the scarp book, this shape is created using the Pen Tool in the Photoshop toolbox palette. Now choose your color and fill it in with Gradient tool.
